When it comes to finding a mid century modern bench for your entryway, the classic option has no storage. A George Nelson Platform or a Florence Knoll has clean lines and stylish seating, but no space for extra shoes, hats, and accessories. To find a mid century modern storage bench, you will have to deviate from the design classics.

For practical storage and seating options in your entryway, here are my top finds for ready-made modern storage benches. This is a full roundup from least to most expensive with the space features of each:

Belham Living Finn Mid Century Modern Bench ($189.98)

This 46.5’’ bench features whimsical angled tapered legs and one drawer (with a two faux drawer look). This drawer offers storage for small items (like sunglasses and keys). With 0.4 cubic square feet, the bench functions as seating, side table and storage in one. The construction is rubberwood with birch veneer.  Added bonus: the cushion is included. 

 

CB2 Catch-All Sand Storage Bench ($399)

If you’re a fan of hi-gloss lacquer, this 39.5’’ modern storage bench offers design minimalism with maximum space. The cushion delivers comfort as well as a natural, warm accent to the stark white base. In total, this bench offers 4.6 cubic square feet of space. If you’re looking for a longer bench, CB2 also has a 75’’ option with over 9 cubic square feet of space. That’s a lot of storage!   

 

West Elm Mid-Century Entryway Bench ($499, On Sale for $399)

This retro traditional 50’’ bench is made from solid, sustainably sourced acorn wood. With three drawers, you can also compartmentalize what you wish to store. Unfortunately, there are no specifications about the internal dimensions for this bench. Taking into account the legs and drawers, I’d estimate it to be around 4 cubic feet. Note: the cushion is sold separately.   

 

Belham Living Anson Entryway Bench ($399)

Similar to the West Elm bench, this retro inspired modern bench is 48’’ and comes with a cushion. Made from rubberwood with a birch veneer, the Anson has two drawers of storage (one has two faux drawers). Though there are no details regarding interior storage space, I estimate it to be around 4 cubic feet. If you like the compartments, this is a good solution.     

 

West Elm Mid-Century Storage Bench ($499)

For an upholstered alternative, this fair trade 48’’ bench is a neutral complement to other furnishings. The bench has a tufted design, tapered legs, and a solid wood frame. This is a traditional look that can be dressed up with colorful pillows. The internal dimensions are approximately 3.28 cubic square feet.     

 

Article Culla Bench ($699)

Made with solid wood covered in veneer, this 57’’ modern storage bench offers tufted upholstery and soft-close drawers. For wood colors, you have three options: American Black walnut, American oak and white lacquer with various neutral-colored cushions. Without specifications, I estimate the internal storage to be approximately 5 cubic square feet.    

Blu Dot Modu-licious #1 ($799)

This award-winning storage collection can be customized to fit your needs. The #1 can be used as a nightstand or a bench. It comes in three veneer color options: graphite on oak, maple and walnut. At 32’’ in length, this storage unit can be used by itself or can be paired with another unit side-by-side. The two steel drawers can be powder-coated in white, grey blue, red, ivory, slate or robin’s egg blue. You can mix-and-match colors to suit your style. The Modu-licious cushion is sold separately. I estimate the interior space to be around 1.8 cubic square feet.

 

Gus* Modern Mimico Bench ($950)

This 50’’ modern bench offers sleek minimalism paired with multi-functionality. This piece can be used as a coffee table or bench. It offers seating, storage, side table and shelving. It is also available in two wood colors: walnut or ash with cushioned seat. The seat pulls up to offer 32’’ x 19’’ of storage. I estimate 1-2 cubic square feet of interior space.

 

Design Within Reach Matera Storage Bench ($995)

Designed by Sean Yoo, this modern storage bench comes in 43.5’’ and 64.75’’ options. Yoo is inspired by Isamu Noguchi, and this bench has similar sculptural qualities. The frame comes in solid walnut or oak with veneer over panels as well as solid wood edging. This piece features a soft close top, slotted base and beveled edging. The cushion is sold separately. For the 43.5’’, I estimate the storage space to be around 5 cubic feet. For the 64.75’’ bench, I estimate the storage space to be 8.8 square feet. Side note: this is the storage bench that I ended up buying for my entryway.   

 

Rejuvenation Highland Storage Bench ($1279)

The Highland Storage Bench blends simplicity with style. Available in white or onyx oak veneer, the bench has leather pulls and features a neutral upholstered seat.
